Introduction of the Tokai Branch of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association
The Tokai Branch of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA), located in Nagoya, the third biggest city in Japan, is one of 9 regional JPAA branches, and is organized by more than 900 patent attorneys working in the five prefectures (Aichi, Mie, Gifu, Shizuoka and Nagano) of the Tokai Area, located in the central region of Japan.
All patent attorneys in Japan must be registered as members of the JPAA. Patent attorneys are qualified experts on intellectual property (IP), such as Patents, Trademarks and Designs. The roles of patent attorneys include representing clients in all aspects of prosecution of IP rights, counsel for IP related litigation cases, assisting clients in a variety of IP issues such as Copyright issues, Unfair Competition Prevention Act issues, executing contracts, as well as licensing negotiations. Patent attorneys can also handle foreign IP matters of Japanese clients as well as handling Japanese IP matters of foreign clients.
Since the establishment of the Tokai Branch in 1996, the branch has been handling many local activities such as lecture presentations for local IP users, and educating and connecting members of the local IP legal community.
The Tokai Branch welcomes foreign IP experts to exchange IP information, and hopes to establish meaningful relationships with the IP experts.
